About Mercedes Woodcroft
Hey there! My names Mercedes and – before you ask – no, unfortunately I do not drive one. At least not yet. When I was young, I was genuinely convinced that by the age of 21 I would have written a book, directed a movie, starred in a movie, become a famous photographer and started my own brand. Oh, and I was also desperate to become a criminal psychologist and live in New York city. (That sentence was a lot to process let alone actually achieve. Ha ha.)
So, as you can imagine, by the time I reached my Year 12 graduation I was a bit lost picking a career that would set me on a path to achieve everything I was passionate about. Thankfully, my careers councillor noticed there was a creative theme running through my many interests and thought advertising would be perfect for me. So, I moved from Sydney to Melbourne to study advertising at RMIT and pursue a career as a copywriter or art director.

While my university degree provided a great opportunity to express my creativity, I had a rather laidback approach to study at the start.
That mindset changed overnight when I was diagnosed with a rather large brain aneurysm. Yikes! Being 19 and having to deal with that isn’t fun. It was quite a reality check. I used to think finishing a Netflix series in one night was quite an achievement. Now there were all these unfulfilled dreams to deal with.
As much as I wish my aneurysm had never happened – you would be crazy to want something like that in your life – it helped put my life into sharp perspective. To put the wind in my sails, so to speak. And I was one of the lucky ones. A few months after it was diagnosed a very clever neuro-interventionalist from Melbourne fixed it for me.
Now, true to my name (forgive the pun), I have become driven to accomplish some of my many creative goals. So, watch out advertising world, Mercedes is at your service.
